Wallace's Hawk-Eagle

Overview

Wallace's hawk-eagle (Nisaetus nanus) is a species of bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is one of the smallest eagles in the world and is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Approximately 46 cm (18 in) in length, roughly the size of a peregrine falcon.
• Weighs between 500 and 610 g (1.10–1.34 lb).

Habitat

Found in the Kra Isthmus, Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo, it resides in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. The species is non-migratory.
