Overview

The rufous-breasted wood quail (Odontophorus speciosus) is a species of bird in the family Odontophoridae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species is found in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru, primarily on the east side of the Andes at elevations between 800 and 2000 m, with higher altitudes in Peru. Its natural habitat consists of subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Diet

The rufous-breasted wood quail feeds on insects and nuts, particularly in the summer, as well as plants. Unlike many other bird species, it requires a high protein diet.
