Dusky-brown Oriole

Overview

The dusky-brown oriole (Oriolus phaeochromus) is a species of bird in the family Oriolidae that is endemic to North Maluku. It is also known by the alternate names dusky oriole, Gray's oriole, Halmahera oriole and Moluccan oriole, and is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Consistently even brown plumage lacking any streaking or pale markings on the head.
• Distinctive, fluty call described as "ke-ke-KWEEOW", where the initial two notes are faint and the final note is loud and emphatic.

Habitat

Found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, this species typically inhabits the upper canopy, forest edges, mangrove areas, and adjacent cultivated regions in lowland and foothill elevations.
