The grey-backed tailorbird (Orthotomus derbianus) is a species of passerine bird formerly classified within the Old World warblers, now placed in the family Cisticolidae. It is endemic to the Philippines, specifically found on the islands of Luzon and Catanduanes.

Habitat

This species is restricted to the tropical moist lowland and montane forests of the Philippines, inhabiting areas up to 2,480 meters above sea level. It is currently assessed as a Least-concern species by the IUCN, indicating it is fairly common and tolerant of some habitat disturbance.

Diet

The bird feeds on small invertebrates, typically foraging in dense undergrowth. It is usually observed in pairs when hunting for food.

Did you know?

Despite its current status as a resident of Luzon and Catanduanes, a single specimen was collected on Palawan in 1958, which is presumed to have been the result of an aberrant movement or a collection error.
