Overview
The crested francolin is a species of bird found in southern Africa. It was formerly classified in its own genus but is now grouped with the grey and swamp francolins within the genus Ortygornis.
Habitat
This species is native to southern Africa. Its subspecies include Ortygornis sephaena grantii, Ortygornis sephaena rovuma (sometimes considered a separate species, Kirk's francolin), Ortygornis sephaena sephaena, Ortygornis sephaena spilogaster, and Ortygornis sephaena zambesiae.
