Overview
The yellow-throated whistler (Pachycephala macrorhyncha), also known as the Banda Sea whistler, is a species of bird in the family Pachycephalidae. It is endemic to central and south-eastern Wallacea, specifically the islands in or adjacent to the Banda Sea. There is often confusion with the oriole whistler, which is sometimes alternatively called the yellow-throated whistler.
Identification
- Males of the fuscoflava subspecies possess a yellow throat, whereas males of all other subspecies are white-throated.
Habitat
The species is endemic to central and south-eastern Wallacea, ranging from Timor east to the Tanimbars and north to Seram and Banggai. Its distribution roughly equals the islands in or adjacent to the Banda Sea, with specific subspecies found in the Tanimbar, Seram, Ambon, Buru, Sula, and Banggai Islands.
