Overview

The rufous-headed tailorbird (Phyllergates heterolaemus) is a species of bird in the family Cettiidae. It is found only in the Philippines on the island of Mindanao, where it inhabits tropical moist montane forests.

Habitat

This species inhabits forest understorey and edge, second growth, and grassy clearings at altitudes over 1,000 metres above sea level. Its range is restricted to the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, specifically within tropical moist montane forests that have remained relatively intact due to their inaccessibility.

Diet

The diet is presumed to consist of tiny invertebrates. The bird typically forages in pairs or small family groups deep within tangled vegetation.

Did you know?

Although it was formerly considered conspecific with the Mountain tailorbird, it is now recognised as distinct and differs greatly in plumage.
