Sakhalin Leaf Warbler

Overview

The Sakhalin leaf warbler (Phylloscopus borealoides) is a species of Old World warbler in the family Phylloscopidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Long white supercilium and broad, dark brown eye-stripes.
• Dark brown crown, upper parts, and bill with a pink base extending to the lower mandible.
• Greenish-brown cheeks and mottled ear-coverts.
• Pale pinkish-brown legs.

Habitat

Its natural habitat is temperate forests. It is found in Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, and Japan, wintering to the Amami and Okinawa islands and Indochina.

It is easily confused with the pale-legged leaf warbler, though it can be distinguished by its lower-pitched vocalizations and slightly more greenish upperparts.
