Overview

The green-crowned warbler, scientifically known as Phylloscopus burkii, is a species of leaf warbler belonging to the family Phylloscopidae. It was formerly classified within the broader 'Old World warbler' assemblage and has been reassessed from the genus Seicercus to Phylloscopus following molecular studies.

Habitat

Found across the Indian subcontinent in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan, with a single recorded sighting in Sri Lanka in 1993. The bird inhabits both subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

A molecular phylogenetic study published in 2018 revealed that neither Phylloscopus nor Seicercus were monophyletic, leading to the merger of the two genera into Phylloscopus due to its priority under international zoological nomenclature rules.
