Large-billed Leaf Warbler

Overview

The large-billed leaf warbler (Phylloscopus magnirostris) is a migratory bird species found in Asia. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Somewhat large in size for a leaf warbler with a single wing bar.
• Features a prominent yellowish-white supercilium contrasting with a broad, dark eye stripe extending behind the eye.
• Possesses a large darkish upper mandible and a dark crown with greyish ear-coverts.
• Produces a distinctive two-note 'dir-tee' call where the second note is much higher, often heard at regular intervals.

Habitat

Breeds in central China and the Himalayas, and winters in Sri Lanka, the Western Ghats, and associated hill ranges. It inhabits dense vegetation, though it has occasionally been observed in urban areas.
