Green Warbler

Overview

The green warbler, also known as green willow warbler or green leaf warbler, is a leaf warbler found in the Caucasus Mountains in southeastern Europe. It belongs to the new leaf-warbler family Phylloscopidae, having previously been classified within the 'Old World warbler' assemblage.

Identification

• It is brighter in colour than the closely related greenish warbler, with an underside that is much more yellow.
• The bird displays one strong and one faint wing bar, particularly visible in young birds.

Habitat

This species is found in the Caucasus Mountains in southeastern Europe. Its conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.

The genus name Phylloscopus derives from the Ancient Greek words phullon, meaning 'leaf', and skopos, meaning 'seeker' (from skopeo, 'to watch'). The specific epithet nitidus comes from Latin and means 'shining'.
