Overview

The grey-cheeked warbler (Phylloscopus poliogenys) is a species of leaf warbler within the family Phylloscopidae. It was formerly classified under the "Old World warbler" assemblage and was previously placed in the genus Seicercus before a 2018 molecular phylogenetic study prompted its merger into the genus Phylloscopus.

Habitat

Native to Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam, this species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Its population trend appears to be stable.

A molecular phylogenetic study published in 2018 revealed that neither Phylloscopus nor Seicercus were monophyletic, leading to the merger of the two genera, with Phylloscopus retaining priority under the rules of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature.
