Tytler's Leaf Warbler

Overview

Tytler's leaf warbler (Phylloscopus tytleri) is a songbird in the family Phylloscopidae, classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. It is a migratory species that breeds in the Northwestern Himalayas and winters in southern India.

Identification

• Features a very pointed face profile with reduced feathering at the base of the beak and short, few rictal bristles.
• Possesses a thin bill with a long exposed nasal groove and no wing bars.
• The lower mandible is neither flesh-coloured nor dark black.

Habitat

Resides in subtropical or tropical moist montane forests across Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, and India. Breeding occurs in the Northwestern Himalayan region, with suspected populations in the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas, while it winters in the Western Ghats and the Nilgiris.
