Streak-throated Woodpecker

Overview

The streak-throated woodpecker (Picus xanthopygaeus) is a species of woodpecker found in the Indian subcontinent. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• A medium-sized, green bird with a yellowish rump and plain dark tail.
• Features a streaked throat and scaly whitish underparts, along with a white supercilia and white and black moustache.
• Males have a red crown, while females have a blackish crown.
• Possesses a smallish, dark bill.

Habitat

It occurs in drier woodland, ranging from lowland areas to the foothills of mountains across the Indian subcontinent.
