Overview

The Pitohui kirhocephalus, commonly known as the northern variable pitohui, is a species of pitohui within the family Oriolidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and was recognised as a distinct species in 2013 following the separation of the Raja Ampat and southern variable pitohuis.

Habitat

This bird resides in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Its range encompasses New Guinea and several neighbouring islands, with subspecies distributed across regions such as Vogelkop, the Cenderawasih Bay area, the Sepik region, and various offshore islands like Adi Island and Yapen.
