Overview

The spectacled weaver (Ploceus ocularis) is a species of bird in the family Ploceidae. It is a common species that breeds in solitary pairs and is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Both sexes feature bright yellow plumage with an olive-yellow back.
• Distinctive black "spectacles" and pale eyes.
• Males possess a black throat.

Habitat

Found widely in the woodland, forest edge, and gardens of central, eastern, and south-eastern Africa. The species is absent from the most arid regions, such as the Karoo, and from dense, primary rainforest.
