Scaly-breasted Cupwing

Overview

The scaly-breasted cupwing, or scaly-breasted wren-babbler, is a species of bird in the Pnoepyga wren-babblers family. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• A very small babbler, approximately 9 cm long and weighing between 19 and 23 g.
• Possesses almost no tail.
• Plumage is olive on the back and lightly scalloped on the chest.

Habitat

Native to southern and eastern Asia, ranging from the Himalayas to Indochina. It inhabits subtropical moist montane forest, typically located near water, and undertakes altitudinal migration by moving closer to sea level during winter.

Did you know?

The Chinese cupwing has been merged into this species, and the Taiwan cupwing was once treated as a subspecies of the scaly-breasted cupwing.
