Overview

The yellow-rumped tinkerbird (Pogoniulus bilineatus) is a species of bird in the family Lybiidae, commonly known as African barbets. It is native to the moist tropical and subtropical regions of sub-Saharan Africa and is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits moist tropical and subtropical regions across a wide range of sub-Saharan Africa, including Angola, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Six subspecies are recognised, with distributions covering areas from Senegambia and South Sudan to the highlands of eastern Uganda, central Kenya, Rwanda, and northern Tanzania, as well as coastal regions of Kenya and Tanzania extending to Mozambique and eastern South Africa.
