Overview

The banded prinia is a species of bird in the family Cisticolidae that is native to central Africa. It was first described in 1855 and is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. Its range covers central Africa, from southeast Nigeria through Congo to east northeast DR Congo and west Uganda, with other subspecies found in northwest Angola, east DR Congo, west Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, east Uganda, and west Kenya.

Did you know?

The specific epithet 'bairdii' was chosen to honour Spencer Fullerton Baird, a naturalist and museum curator, while the type specimen was collected near the Mondah River in northwest Gabon by the French-American naturalist Paul Du Chaillu.
