Overview

The necklaced barbet (Psilopogon auricularis) is an Asian barbet species that is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. It is found in specific regions of Southeast Asia, including Laos and southern Vietnam.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical, lowland tropical moist forests, as well as montane forests reaching altitudes of up to 2,700 m (8,900 ft). Its range is restricted to Laos and southern Vietnam.

Did you know?

The scientific name Psilopogon auricularis was originally proposed by Herbert C. Robinson and C. Boden Kloss in 1919 for a specimen collected at the Langbian Plateau in southern Vietnam, where it was initially described under the binomial Cyanops franklinii auricularis.
