Overview

The Chinese barbet (Psilopogon faber) is a bird in the family Megalaimidae that is endemic to southern China. First described by Robert Swinhoe in 1870, it was formerly considered a subspecies of the black-browed barbet but is now recognized as a distinct species. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests as well as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Its range is restricted to southern China, where it is threatened by habitat loss.

The Chinese barbet was formerly classified as a subspecies of the black-browed barbet (Psilopogon oorti) before being recognised as a distinct species.
