Yellow-fronted Barbet

Overview

The yellow-fronted barbet is an Asian barbet that is an endemic resident breeder in Sri Lanka.

Identification

• Green plumage with a yellow crown.
• Blue patches located below the eyes, on the throat, and on the chin.
• Length of 21–22 cm (8.3–8.7 in) and a weight of 57–60 g (2.0–2.1 oz).

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical and tropical moist forests, wetlands, plantations, and rural gardens in Sri Lanka. It is found at altitudes up to 2,000 m (6,600 ft).

Diet

The yellow-fronted barbet feeds on berries, fruits, and occasionally insects.
