Black-browed Barbet

Overview

The Psilopogon oorti is an Asian barbet native to Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra. It is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List owing to its wide distribution and stable population.

Identification

• Predominantly green plumage with a yellow, blue-bordered throat.
• Black streaks located above the eyes and red patches situated above the bill, lores, throat, and nape.
• Approximately 21.5 cm long and weighing around 62 g.

Habitat

This species inhabits montane and dipterocarp forests between 600 and 2,000 m altitude. Its range includes western Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia.

Diet

The black-browed barbet forages for insects and fruits within the upper and middle levels of the canopy.
