The Ahanta francolin, also known as the Ahanta spurfowl (Pternistis ahantensis), is a species of bird in the pheasant family, Phasianidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This bird is native to western Africa, where it occurs across Benin, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

The species was described in 1854 by the Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck, who based his work on specimens collected in the Dutch Gold Coast, an area now located in southern Ghana.
