Yellow-necked Spurfowl

Overview

The yellow-necked spurfowl, also known as the yellow-necked francolin, is a species of bird in the family Phasianidae. It is named for the distinctive yellow patch found on its neck.

Identification

• Yellow patch on the neck
• Males possess spurs on the back of their legs
• Call consists of a series of scratchy descending upslurs, up to seven in number

Habitat

Found in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The species is highly adaptable, continuing to inhabit agricultural lands until heavy human occupation begins.
