Overview

The Natal spurfowl, also known as the Natal francolin, is a species of bird in the family Phasianidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is considered monotypic with no recognised subspecies.

Habitat

Native to Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, the species was originally noted as inhabiting brushwood thickets in the vicinity of Natal in the east of South Africa.
