Plain Laughingthrush

Overview

The plain laughingthrush, or Pterorhinus davidi, is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae that is endemic to central and northeastern China. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Plumage: Greyish-brown color with no defined markings, except for some faint mottling on the front.
• Bill: Curved.
• Song: Includes buzzing calls and a relatively varied series of whistled songs; males use quiet songs to signify aggressive intent.

Habitat

This bird is endemic to central and northeastern China, where its natural habitat consists of temperate forests. It is described as a sedentary species that usually occupies the same habitats as the Beijing babbler.
