Overview

The chestnut-capped laughingthrush (Pterorhinus mitratus), also known as the spectacled laughingthrush, is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It was formerly placed in the genus Garrulax but was moved to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus following a 2018 molecular phylogenetic study.

Habitat

Found in Sumatra (Indonesia) and the Thai-Malay Peninsula, it inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. The chestnut-hooded laughingthrush was previously considered a subspecies of this bird.

The bird was previously placed in the genus Garrulax but was transferred to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus in 2018 as a result of a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study.
