The greater necklaced laughingthrush is a passerine bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

It inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. Its range includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam, with an introduced population in Hawaii.

The mimicry of the greater necklaced laughingthrush by the Lesser necklaced laughingthrush, which is not especially closely related, may have evolved as a result of the greater species' dominant behaviour in mixed-species foraging flocks.
