Overview
The yellow-breasted fruit dove (Ramphiculus occipitalis), known locally as balorinay, is a species of bird in the family Columbidae endemic to the Philippines. It is currently classified as least concern by the IUCN, although its population is declining due to habitat loss, hunting, and trapping for the illegal wildlife trade.
Habitat
Its natural habitat is moist tropical primary lowland forest up to 1,800 meters above sea level. The species is found in the northern and central lowland forests, as well as the mountains of Mindanao in the southeastern Philippines.
Diet
This species is a frugivore that usually occurs singly or in small groups with other doves to feed on fruiting trees. Its flight is fast and direct, featuring regular beats and an occasional sharp flick of the wings characteristic of pigeons.
