Cream-vented Bulbul

Overview

The cream-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus simplex) is a passerine bird within the bulbul family, also known as the white-eyed brown bulbul. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Breast might sometimes appear slightly yellow.
• White-eyed populations found on Borneo are now distinguished from this species as the cream-eyed bulbul (P. pseudosimplex).

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests across south-eastern Asia. Its range extends from the Malay Peninsula to Borneo, including Sumatra, Java, and the Anambas and northern Natuna Islands.

The name white-eyed bulbul is shared with the white-spectacled bulbul, although the white-eyed populations previously attributed to the cream-vented bulbul in Borneo are now considered a distinct species, the cream-eyed bulbul.
