Overview
The blue-and-yellow tanager (Rauenia bonariensis) is a species of bird in the tanager family Thraupidae. It was formerly placed in the genus Thraupis but was moved to Pipraeidea and later to Rauenia based on molecular phylogenetic studies.
Habitat
This species inhabits subtropical or tropical dry and moist lowland forests, moist montane forests, high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forests. Its range extends across Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, the extreme northern border of Chile, and Andean Peru and Ecuador. Some southern populations migrate northeastwards in the austral winter to eastern Bolivia and northeastern Argentina, while in Paraguay they are migratory non-breeding residents.
