White-browed Fantail

Overview

The white-browed fantail (Rhipidura aureola) is a small passerine bird belonging to the family Rhipiduridae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• About 18 cm in length with dark brown upperparts and whitish underparts.
• Features white spots on the wings and a fan-shaped tail edged in white.
• Long white supercilia meet on the forehead, while the blackish throat and eyemask border whitish moustachial stripes.

Habitat

This species breeds across the tropical regions of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, ranging from eastern Pakistan to southern Indochina. It is typically found in forests and other woodland habitats.

Diet

The white-browed fantail is insectivorous. It forages by moving through the undergrowth, often fanning its tail as it travels.
