Overview

The blue-mantled crested flycatcher, also known as the African crested flycatcher, is a species of bird in the family Monarchidae. It is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

Found in eastern and south-eastern Africa, this species inhabits subtropical or tropical dry forests as well as subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Its range spans from Uganda and Somalia in the north to north-eastern South Africa in the south, with five recognised subspecies distributed across this area.

Diet

As a member of the monarch flycatcher family, the blue-mantled crested flycatcher is insectivorous.

Did you know?

The blue-mantled crested flycatcher was originally described in the genus Muscicapa and some authorities have also classified it in the genus Terpsiphone, in addition to its current placement in Trochocercus.
