Overview

The black-backed bush tanager (Urothraupis stolzmanni), also known as the black-backed bush-finch, is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is the only member of the genus Urothraupis and is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

Found in Colombia and Ecuador, this species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Did you know?

The species name honours the Polish zoologist Jan Sztolcman, who collected the specimens from which it was formally described in 1885. Molecular studies place it in the subfamily Poospizinae, where it is a sister species to the pardusco.
