Equatorial Greytail

Overview

The equatorial greytail (Xenerpestes singularis) is a Near Threatened bird species in the ovenbird family Furnariidae, found exclusively in Ecuador and Peru. It is a tiny furnariid that resembles a warbler, with adults measuring approximately 11.5 cm in length.

Identification

• Plumage: Adults have rufous forecrowns with black streaks, olive-gray backs and tails, and creamy white underparts with blurry gray streaks; lores are buff and grayish grizzled with a thin buffy white supercilium.
• Bill: Maxilla is slate gray to black, mandible is creamy to pale gray.
• Song: A long and dry, almost insect-like trill lasting five or more seconds, described as 'tzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz'.
