Overview

The whiskered yuhina (Yuhina flavicollis) is a small passerine bird in the white-eye family Zosteropidae, native to the Himalayan and South Asian regions. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is noted as one of the commonest yuhinas in the Himalayas.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, preferring relatively undisturbed closed canopy cover. Its range spans from the Himalayan forests of northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh eastward to Indochina, including Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Did you know?

While the whiskered yuhina often forages in mixed hunting parties with other yuhina and fulvetta species, it has also been recorded not associating with such groups in certain areas. It is also one of several bird species actively hunted by livestock herders in Northeast India.
