Overview
The southern yellow white-eye (Zosterops anderssoni) is a bird species in the family Zosteropidae found in parts of southern Africa. It is currently recognised as a distinct species following a 2013 molecular study that separated it from the African yellow white-eye.
Habitat
This species occurs in southern Africa, with three subspecies ranging from east and south Angola through north Namibia, southern and eastern parts of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe into South Africa.
Diet
The bird's diet consists of insects, fruits, seeds, and grains.
Did you know?
For many years, this bird was not considered its own species but was treated merely as a subspecies of the African yellow white-eye (Zosterops senegalensis), a classification that only changed in 2013.
