Overview

The Ethiopian white-eye is a small passerine bird in the family Zosteropidae, native to the Ethiopian Highlands. Zosterops eurycricotus is now classified as a distinct species within this complex.

Habitat

Found in the Ethiopian Highlands, it inhabits woodland, forest edges, and isolated cultivations, typically in younger growths or shorter trees at altitudes of 1340 to 3640 meters.

Diet

Its diet consists mainly of berries and small insects, with the bird being primarily frugivorous in the dry season and insectivorous in the wet season. Between September and November, it can be observed foraging on Leonotis flowers.

The species was formerly known as the 'broad-ringed white-eye' but was separated from Zosterops poliogastrus and other related species due to molecular evidence.
